What is Flexible Workspace?

This one appears to be pretty straight-forward. A flexible workspace is just about any place that lends itself to working in a flexible manner. With the ability to pop-in, plop-down, plug-in and get down to business, flexible workspaces are rising in popularity. Given today’s continually leap-frogging of IT advances and tech gadgetry in our work anywhere / work anytime universe, perhaps the more apropos question is “What Isn’t A Flexible Workspace?” Unsurprisingly, the answer to that question results in a pretty negligible list.

In a sense, flexible workspace is every space these days. Whether you’re travelling, shopping, eating, or drinking a cup of coffee, chances are you are using a flexible workspace – or initiating one – because you are probably working on a hand-held, laptop, or wearable device that renders you as flex-working.

On the other hand, some, when referring to a flexible workspace, are really talking about a designated traditional office that has been redesigned to serve flexible workers and work-ways – often with hot desks or other layouts that enable employees to flexibly come and go, regardless of whether they have an office or workstation on-site or at another location.

These types of flexible workstations and work-ways can be manifested in large businesses with CCO (Centrally Commuted Offices) or headquarters, in their satellite offices, and in some instances, some organizations are even going central office free. Some businesses opt to forego a CCO in favor of keeping their organizations austere, nimble, fleet-of-foot, and their employees on their toes. In some instances moving away from a CCO is a way to perhaps gently nudge employees to be out in the field, close to the vest with clients, in order to achieve the goals and results that the organization and management desires.

The days of hunkering down in a 9-to-5 cellular office are dwindling, just as is presenteeism-based working. We’re sprinting towards flex-working, work-anywhere, results-oriented work, with flexible working taking center stage as the work-way method of choice.

This flexible work-way not only exists in corporations, but more so every day at serviced workspaces such as at business centers, coworking spaces, hybrid centers and at other retail shared workspaces. In a sense, a serviced workspace is the ultimate flexible workspace for individual and group-working, and especially for meetings, be they planned or spontaneous.

We live in a flexible working universe – and proudly Johnny-On-The-Spot to serve this burgeoning demand, and to augment the workspace needs of both solopreneurs and larger companies. This is the Serviced Workspace community…the ideal solution for the increasing flex-work needs of today’s work tribes – and much more so for tomorrows.
