Ah, Sunny San Diego. It’s not only a great place to visit, but living there is awesome, too. Who wouldn’t want to live in such a stunning place? This is where it all started for California, and things really took off with a vengeance. Of course, the comfortable year round climate is to die for – and all of those fantastic beaches!
Unfortunately, though – few people can really afford to live there anymore – unless they were grandfathered in, inherited a lot of money, or are incredibly successful. It’s ironic, but business startups are on the rise in the region – mostly relating to biotechnology and healthcare development. So how do all those new startups survive, let alone thrive?
I think it has more to do with being money smart. By that I mean, really knowing where to put resources – including time. I have an acquaintance named Tom down there who invites colleagues, investors, and potential clients down there all the time. Funny thing is, he doesn’t have much of an office. But he does have access to meeting rooms. And because he can write off all of those costs, it really saves him a bundle.
When he needs to get to L.A. – or anywhere else for that matter, he books a meeting room ahead of time. He likes to do that so he has control over how the meeting goes. Kind of like being on your own turf. Just works out better that way. Besides, he can always get the room set up the way he wants it — with whiteboards and other cool stuff.
He can even arrange for them to handle the catering, which is really helpful when you’re not sure what kind of restaurants are around, let alone the quality of the nearby establishments. It also costs less to do it that way.
Shockingly, a meeting room at Davinci in San Diego can be had for the bargain basement price of around $20! Given the average price of real estate there — and the fact that hotel spaces are just out of control — that’s amazing!
