Implications of the New Mobile Work Environment

Technology is such a wonderful thing. All you have to do is wait a minute and it changes. Advances in technology allow us to unchain ourselves from the office to work mobile. Most of what can be done today was not even heard of 20 years ago. When talk of a camera phone was on the horizon less than 15 years ago, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard of. Today, I would not even consider buying a mobile phone without a camera. As a matter of fact, are there any current phones even sold without cameras? I also remember when I wanted the web enabled phone and only a few companies offered it.

Are you a freelance writer like myself? I can report on an event with only one item if I had to. My mobile phone can act as a recording, camera, and note taking device. There are special phone numbers you can call to get a recording device enabled on your phone, for extensive chat. Pictures taken with the phone’s camera can be instantly uploaded to your favorite social media site and you can type your article into your email address from your phone and push send to your editor or copy and paste into the word document feature for later use.

Traveling workers don’t have to miss the meeting because they are stuck at the airport or in traffic. Wifi is available at the airport and portable broadband connections can be used in the taxi or anywhere. Face to face meetings don’t have to be in person when you connect through Skype and share live video feeds. Even without the computer you can connect into virtual meeting rooms by telephone.

The key to making successful rounds with mobile enabled office equipment can be simplified by keeping all of your equipment stored where it can be picked up at a moment’s notice without searching for it. Chargers, extra batteries, etc., should be checked regularly to ensure they are in working condition. Even if you use these items on a daily basis, always put them back in their place when finished. Organization might seem like a pain to some but it will definitely increase productivity and income for both the entrepreneur and the employee working mobile.
