Taking Your Office on the Road

The newest trend is to take your office on the road. Workers are so busy nowadays making transactions on the go that they must be suitably equipped to work outside the office. Sometimes they need to work in the cab on the way to the airport, to finish a document that must be delivered before boarding a flight.

Then during the flight there might still be some loose ends to tidy up and while the phone or computer is in flight mode, they are busily preparing for the moment they are able to transmit their data. Many airlines are equipped with phone service so that making an expensive call to your office is not uncommon.

Mobile technology makes it quite feasible to carry on your work mission no matter where you are. It used to be that workers had to email documents to themselves and work on them after opening the mail, completing the assignment and then emailing it to someone else. It is highly possible now for teams to work on assignments together without any one of them being in the same room, state, or even country together.

Much of this is owed to cloud technology. Someone works on a document and asks for the other workers to take a look at it, complete the editing, etc. Even if there are no colleagues working with you, syncing your computers, tablets and smartphones means you can retrieve your work from any of the devices.

Think about online learning. Some universities have devised student teams where classmates are situated across continents. Yet everyone contributes to the finished class project. When all is done, students are amazed that they have produced legible copy that can be printed from each of their computers. The amazing part: these people would not know each other if they all met on the street.

Hard workers who travel constantly, but must help their children with their homework also find cloud computing convenient. If your daughter needs you to edit her work, ask her to use a cloud program, email, or any new tech savvy program and you can send it back to her with the corrections.

Taking your office on the road is a new way to work. The only thing you have to remember is to take an old fashioned break from time to time.
