Strike a Better Meeting Balance

Sometimes professionals dislike getting together for meetings because they end up being a waste of productive time, cause a tremendous drain on energy levels of workers and create disappointment among members because nothing gets accomplished. To keep the motivational level high among workers, it is imperative that meetings have a purpose. If run properly meetings have the ability to increase productivity, motivation and creativity and ultimately company revenue. If there is no purpose, postpone the meeting until a later date.

Decide who needs to be at the meeting, what will be discussed and prepare an agenda. Hold the meeting at a time and on a date that is most convenient for workers. Topics of discussion should be listed and if necessary, they can be further clarified by adding two to three subtopics. Depending on the formality of the meeting a designated speaker should be appointed to present the report within a designated time frame. You may also allow for time allotted rebuttals if feasible. Agree which issues have been resolved and which need to be further addressed during a subsequent meeting.

But, being in a high rise, his meeting was held in the penthouse meeting room, overlooking the beautiful skyline of the big city.

Sometimes our creativity becomes stifled and no matter what we do it’s hard to untangle ourselves from it. If you are a freelance writer, for example, your livelihood depends on your creativity and the ability to weave words together. The break doesn’t have to be of any particular duration. Whatever is best for you. If you are an employee and you feel the need to extend it beyond your lunch hour, apply for time off, such as requesting a few vacation days. If you work for yourself, you have no one to answer to but yourself.
